- Deterioratedinter-community relations are an important factor exacerbating violence andfragility in the northern regions of the Gulf of Guinea. Several analyses have shown how patterns of stigmatization andexclusion undermine social cohesion in the region, particularly relationsbetween farmer and herder communities. In this context, the World Bank islooking for a partner to support the design of a pilot intervention that wouldhelp repair deteriorated social relations between these communities in northernBenin and Côte d-Ivoire. Thisintervention would be embedded in existing community-driven initiativescurrently being implemented by the governments of Benin and Côte d-Ivoirethrough the Gulf of Guinea northern regions social cohesion (COSO) project. The goal is to design an intervention that builds on the growingevidence base showing that perspective-sharing mechanisms can effectivelyimprove social cohesion and reduce prejudice. The World Bank is looking to contract a vendorwith experience in conflict mitigation and psychosocial interventions to support the designand planning of an intervention to reduce prejudice between farmer and herdercommunities through perspective taking. Throughout this process, the vendor will work closely with the COSOproject coordination units, the World Bank and with local stakeholders. Thehiring and management of the staff that will facilitate the prejudice reductionactivities falls outside of these ToRs. However, the vendor will providecapacity building and technical assistance to the COSO project coordinationunits and their local implementation partners as they oversee and execute theseprejudice reduction activities.
